The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Thursday announced that Phase 1 of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension will open this month.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista shared the news during a press briefing at Malacañan Palace, revealing that the extension is set to open in the next two to three weeks.

This partial opening marks the first railway project to be completed under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration.

Developed through a Public-Private Partnership, the first phase of the extension will connect Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City.

The extension is expected to reduce travel time by up to 30 minutes and serve an additional 80,000 passengers daily.

“We hope that this opening of the extension of Line 1 will help alleviate traffic as it will be able to support thousands of additional passengers,” Bautista said.

Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) General Manager Enrico Benipayo said the extension includes five new stations and stretches the line to 26 kilometers from 20 kilometers. The additional stations and expanded reach aim to ease congestion along busy routes, providing a faster commuting option for thousands of daily passengers in southern Metro Manila.
