MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook Davao Occidental on Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Tectonic in origin, the tremor occurred around 4:34 p.m. some 54 kilometers (kms) southeast of Don Marcelino town, also in the province, the agency said.

Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said the depth of focus of the earthquake was 56kms as Instrumental Intensity 3 was recorded in the same municipality.

While damage to infrastructure was unlikely, aftershocks were expected, according to the Phivolcs chief.
