Mapúa University launched its School of Medicine in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) on Thursday.

The program introduces various advanced tools for educating medical students and features simulations that mimic local clinics in rural areas.

According to Mapúa, this partnership with ASU aims to prepare learners for the real-life application of their medical practices.

“We simulated an RHU (Rural Health Unit) because typically, when you think of simulation, it’s advanced mannequins in a hospital setting. But we simulated a local health center to allow students to experience what it’s like to be a doctor in a health center,” said Dr. Malaya Santos, Dean of the Mapúa School of Medicine.

The partnership between Mapúa and ASU also recognizes advancements in the industry and incorporates Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies to develop resilient healthcare solutions and improve medical training and facilities for Filipino students.

The collaboration has produced facilities at Mapúa featuring advanced synthetic human models, virtual reality, digital cadavers, and various simulation rooms. The equipment and facilities will be accessible to medical students starting from their first year.

Moreover, Mapúa and ASU aim to foster students to become Universal Health Care-ready professionals. The Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Maylene Beltran commended the partnership between the two universities.

“Commitment to advancing medical education is commendable and, of course, timely, especially as we face an evolving and ever more complex healthcare landscape,” Asec Beltran said.

“As healthcare continues to evolve post-pandemic, these efforts symbolize our mission to mold globally competitive learners who utilize innovation to respond to challenges in local healthcare and can positively impact communities both here and abroad,” said Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo, President and CEO of Mapúa.

Admissions for Academic Year 2024–2025 are now open. Interested applicants can sign up at Mapua’s official website.
