PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday assured families displaced by a recent fire on Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila, that the government would rebuild their houses in time for Christmas; if not, he would host a party for them in the evacuation center.
Marcos made the remark while distributing P21 million in financial aid under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development to fire victims.
During his visit to the Rosario Almario Elementary School in Tondo, Manila, the president said the national and local governments would work closely together to bring all the victims’ needs.

“I promised one of us at an evacuation center: If we haven’t brought you home by Christmas, I will come here to have a party, be happy and have a merry Christmas together,” Marcos said.
Of the amount distributed, Marcos also gave P10,000 each to 2,100 fire victims, along with food packs, 2,100 blankets and 2,100 sleeping mats provided by the Office of the President.
Some of the victims are temporarily sheltered at the Delpan Evacuation Center in Barangay 29, which the president visited to see for himself the victims’ situation.
Marcos assured the fire victims that each food pack would last three to four days, and if the food packs ran out sooner, the government would provide more.
He also said the cash aid was intended for the other needs of the fire victims, such as baby’s milk and maintenance medicines.
Likewise, the president brought with him a medical team from the Department of Health to assist individuals who are ill.
“That goes on and on. They will never leave. They just go around all the evacuation centers. So when you have an illness, as long as you go to them and they will provide service to you,” Marcos said.
Prior to this, the local government unit of Manila provided P10,000 per affected family on Nov. 28.
At least 2,114 families, or 6,957 individuals, were left homeless after a fire broke out at around 8:02 a.m. in Purok 1, 2, and 3 of Isla Puting Bato, Barangay 20, Zone 2, Tondo, Manila, on Nov. 24 due to faulty electrical wiring.

The fire was declared out at around 4:07 p.m. The estimated cost of damage was pegged at P3.5 million. No deaths were recorded, but two people were injured.
