MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. joined the nation in commemorating All Saint’s Day and All Souls’ Day, expressing hope that it would remind Filipinos the values of faith, resilience, and hope.
In his message, Marcos hoped that by observing “Undas” — the traditional yearly visit of Filipinos to their loved ones’ graves on All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, Filipinos would become better persons and stewards of the nation.
“I join all Filipino Catholics in the Philippines and around the world in observing All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day,” Marcos said.
“May this remind us of the values that shall endure through us as a nation: faith, resilience, and hope,” the President said.
Marcos also expressed hope that the two-day holiday may remind Filipinos of those who paved the way for the country’s present prosperity through their example of faith and love for others.
“It is a time for reflection by which we recall the deceased faithful who led lives of honor, sacrifice, and service,” Marcos said.
“This is the opportune moment to fortify our bond for the betterment of our spiritual life, not only with the divine but also with one another. It reminds us of striving towards those virtues that have defined the saints with their extraordinary compassion, kindness, and humility,” he added.
The President enjoined everyone to spend this time with their families and loved ones, to visit the resting places of their departed loved ones, offer heartfelt prayers for them, and express deep gratitude for their impact on their lives.
“Reflecting on our journey in this world, let us strive to live with love and compassion for others, ever seeking the common good, just as the saints and our loved ones did in their time,” he said.
Marcos declared November 1 and 2 as special non-working holidays to allow Filipinos to commemorate the Christian festival of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
The President also suspended work in government offices and classes in all levels on October 31 to allow employees to travel to and from the provinces to observe Undas.
Marcos, along with the rest of his family, are scheduled to attend a Mass on Friday at the Libingan ng mga Bayani for his father, former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
