BACOLOD CITY, Philippines —The provincial goverment of Negros Occidental has logged 20 dengue-related deaths as cases increased by more than 300 percent this year.

The provincial health office recorded 5,338 dengue cases from January to Oct. 26, or an increase of 331.16 percent from 1,292 infections recorded in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, cases of the mosquito-borne disease in Bacolod increased by 312 percent, or from 482 in 2023 to 1,987 this year, with five fatalities.

Provincial health officer Girlie Pinongan said the number of dengue cases in the province has been decreasing in the past few weeks.

Bago City recorded the most number of cases with 602, which is lower compared to figures recorded in 2023.
