Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday urged Filipinos to honor the life and heroism of Andres Bonifacio as the country commemorated his 161st birth anniversary.

In her video message, Duterte said that the occasion was an opportunity for Filipinos to reflect on the country’s condition and future.

(As we celebrate the greatness of Andres Bonifacio, we must open our minds to the current condition of our country, such as poverty, hunger, unemployment, and a lack of basic services for so many Filipinos.)

Duterte, under congressional scrutiny for her use of public funds, has been critical of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. since she left the administration in July. She even labeled her former ally an incompetent president and a liar.

The vice president said that the country’s freedom is Bonifacio’s legacy to every Filipino.

Ipaglaban natin ito,” she said.

(Bonifacio’s legacy to us is our freedom. Let’s take care of it. Let’s fight for it.)

(Let’s spread the message of his heroism to each other, and hopefully, it will become a fire to burn so that we can be stronger, braver, and stand up.)
