MANILA, Philippines — At least 57 kilos of shabu with an estimated value of P387.6 million were intercepted in Liloan, Southern Leyte yesterday.

The illegal drugs, packed in tea bags, were found inside an abandoned sport utility vehicle at Liloan port in Barangay San Roque at around 1:50 a.m. The SUV was among vehicles loaded on a vessel from Surigao City, police said.

Members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine Coast Guard and local police found the drugs during vehicle inspections for narcotics and explosives.

Police said the vehicle’s bill of lading identified the driver as Benzar Mamalinta.

Meanwhile, around 150 grams of shabu worth P1.02 million were seized in Zamboanga City yesterday.

Operatives of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group confiscated the illegal drugs from Dawili Asigain Absabuddin, a seaweed farmer who is facing drug trafficking cases, PDEG director Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said.

The suspect claimed he was merely delivering the package for a fee of P1,500.
