THE inaugural political consultations between the Philippines and Jordan were convened on Thursday at the Jordan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Amman, Jordan.
The high-level event, held for the first time since diplomatic relations were established between the two nations in 1976, focused on strengthening cooperation in various areas, including agriculture, trade, consular responsibilities, defense, labor and education.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Ma. Theresa Lazaro led the Philippine delegation that met with Secretary-General for Diplomatic and Expatriates Affairs of Jordan Majed Thalji Al-Qatarneh.
During the meeting, Jordan encouraged the international community to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The Philippines will host the next bilateral consultations in Manila.
Lazaro, during her trip to Jordan, conducted a lecture on Philippine culture and history at the School of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Jordan.
Around 100 students, faculty, staff and embassy officials attended the presentation.
Lazaro and the school’s President Dr. Natheer Obeidat discussed potential future collaborations between the University of Jordan and Philippine academic institutions, such as the University of the Philippines.
