The Philippine Navy on Wednesday said it has launched its first fast attack interdiction craft-missile (FAIC-M) that was assembled in the country.

In a statement, the Philippine Navy said a launching ceremony featuring the BRP Albert Majini (PG909) was conducted at the Naval Shipyard in Cavite City on Tuesday.

“This milestone represents our progress in strengthening national security and our commitment to advancing the Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) program, particularly in shipbuilding,” Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr. said.

“This effort not only empowers our armed forces but also boosts our industries to further innovation and strengthen our maritime nation,” he added.

According to the Philippine Navy, the boat is part of the Acero-class patrol gunboat fleet in its Littoral Combat Force with quick intercept capabilities and a top speed of 40 knots ideal for addressing security threats.

The acquisition of the missile-capable attack craft aims to reinforce the Philippines’ littoral and coastal defense and allows the military to effectively perform its mission of safeguarding the country’s maritime interests, it added.

As partners of the project, representatives from Israel also attended the launching ceremony.

“This momentous event highlights the growing partnership between our nations, particularly in enhancing the Philippine Navy’s capabilities to safeguard its waters and ensure maritime security,” the Israeli embassy said in a Facebook post.
