MANILA, Philippines — The police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card scam hub in Pasay last week.
Five Chinese nationals and two Filipinos were arrested during the raid, the CIDG said.
Police said the operation was prompted by intelligence reports that a group was supplying pre-registered SIM cards to foreign nationals to be used in love scams, telecommunications fraud and other illegal activities.
Authorities seized hundreds of SIM cards, credit cards, blank cards with magnetic strips and text-blaster devices.
The suspects are in the custody of the CIDG’s Detective Special Operations Unit.
Charges of violating Republic Act 11934 or the SIM Registration Law, RA 12010 or the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act and the Cybercrime Prevention Law will be filed against the suspects.
