ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, Star Magic, continues to expand its reach into the theater world by officially welcoming some of the generation’s top theater actors into its growing roster of artists.
During the Star Magic Spotlight press conference on Oct. 16, ABS-CBN’s Head of TV Production Lauren Dyogi introduced Julia Santiago, Vyen Villanueva, Jude Hinumdum, Miah Canton, Vino Mabalot, Lance Reblando, Teetin Villanueva, and Meann Espinosa as the latest additions to the Star Magic family.
Dyogi expressed admiration for each theater actor, praising their dedication and passion for the craft. “I just wanted to tell everybody—and openly say—that I’m a fan of each one of you,” Dyogi said. “I saw them perform on stage, and their dedication is truly impressive. It’s not just about the hard work, but also the genuine passion they bring to every performance. They are amazing performers, true artists, embodying the values of an artist.”
Dyogi also thanked the theater actors for supporting their fellow Kapamilya artists in exploring the performing arts and expressed confidence in their abilities to keep the theater community “alive.”
“Thank you for welcoming your fellow Star Magic artists who tried stage acting. You made it a wonderful experience for them,” Dyogi stated.
“Again, welcome to Star Magic. I know I won’t be disappointed wherever you perform. We look forward to creating more productions together, knowing you’ll play an essential role in ensuring theater stays vibrant, with Star Magic artists as part of a larger artistic community that now includes musical theater.”
Reflecting on Dyogi’s words, the newly signed actors admitted to feeling pressure but saw it as motivation to showcase their talents.
“Definitely, there’s a reputation to uphold to ensure quality—that’s what ‘Tatak Star Magic’ stands for,” said Vyen. “But good pressure is important; it keeps us excited to showcase ourselves.”
“Yes, there is pressure because we all stand for something and represent a community. Star Magic has a reputation, but we wouldn’t be here if we had nothing to offer,” Lance added.
Veteran theater actor Meann, who also teaches acting workshops, highlighted the unique skills required for each medium—whether theater, television, or film. “Acting in theater demands a specific set of skills, but the same is true for television and film. Newcomers to TV often amaze me with how they convey so much with minimal expressions,” she noted.
Several of these actors appeared in 2023’s Tabing Ilog: The Musical and are set to reprise their roles in the rerun this November.
