THE Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) called on the country’s leaders to stop their political bickering, saying it would shoo away the much-needed foreign investments and the prospects of more employment opportunities.
“We call on all our leaders to act as grown-ups and end this counterproductive political noise and zarzuela that will only hold back the country from moving forward,” TUCP, the country’s largest labor organization, said Tuesday.
“Let us unite behind our duly-elected leaders and buckle down to work to tackle the urgent challenges of poverty wages, hunger, food insecurity, and joblessness if we are to build a more prosperous and equitable ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ founded in accountability, democracy, and the rule of law,” it said.
TUCP’s statement came amid the bickering between the camp of President Marcos and the House of Representatives on the one hand and the group of Vice President Sara Duterte on the other, threatening to shake the country’s political stability.
“Political adventurism endangers not just the President but the stability of our nation. Vitriolic rhetoric has far-reaching implications in our efforts to address poverty and our economic woes,” the group said.
