Tropical storm Marce is likely to intensify on Tuesday, November 5, and may make landfall in Isabela province, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.
Marce was last spotted 935 kilometers east of eastern Visayas while moving west-northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph).
It had maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
By Tuesday, Pagasa said Signal No. 1 may be hoisted over portions of Cagayan. The highest storm signal which may be hoisted is Signal No. 4.
A westward shift in track is likely within the next 24 hours due to the high-pressure area north of the tropical storm, it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.
As such, landfall may occur in Isabela province, Pagasa administrator Nathaniel Servando said.
“Expected to gradually intensify and may reach severe tropical storm category by Tuesday morning or afternoon, this would likely reach typhoon category by Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning,” he said.
The storm’s trough is affecting Eastern Visayas, Bicol region, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
