MANILA, Philippines — An image of the Our Lady of Fatima enshrined at the Diocese of Imus in Cavite will be crowned by the Vatican next year.
The Vatican’s dicastery for divine worship and discipline of sacraments, representing Pope Francis, approved a request for the canonical coronation of the Our Lady of Fatima de Binakayan in Cavite City, which is under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Imus, according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
Fr. Julius de Sagun, rector of the diocesan shrine and head of the Our Lady of Fatima de Binakayan Parish, said the coronation was tentatively scheduled middle of next year.
The canonical coronation is meant to honor the Our Lady of Fatima as a powerful intercessor as well as amplify her message of repentance and conversion to Christ.
Imus Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista, who announced the coronation, expressed hope that the devotion to Our Lady of Fatima would continue to spread as well as attract and bring more people closer to God.
The Our Lady of Fatima de Binakayan is the third image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Diocese of Imus that was granted canonical coronation, following the Our Lady of the Pillar and the Nuestra Señora dela Soledad de Porta Vaga in 2011 and 2018, respectively.
