Rosmar Skin Essentials, a popular beauty and wellness brand led by social media influence Rosemarie Tan, signed an e-commerce memorandum of understanding (MOU) to combat counterfeiting and protect consumers from the health risks associated with fake beauty products.
Tan, chief executive of Rosmar Skin Essentials, said her brand recognized the importance of collaboration with other brand owners to protect their products and safeguard the wellness of buyers and users.
She also revealed the alarming extent of counterfeiting in online marketplaces, where unauthorized sellers could easily undercut legitimate businesses and drive them out of the market.
“Counterfeiters profit by selling at lower prices,” she said, noting that an unauthorized seller claimed to have made P150 million by selling counterfeit Rosmar Skin Essentials products.
She said that despite the intense competition, the main threat to online merchants is counterfeiting, which does not only harm the reputation of legitimate brands but also poses serious health risks to consumers.
She said to strengthen her brand protection efforts, she registered several trademarks with the IPOPHL’s Bureau of Trademarks (BOT) and secured marketing content and advertising collateral with the Bureau of Copyright and Related Rights (BCRR).
This will enhance the detection of infringing posts and aid in her fight against counterfeiters, she said.
Facilitated by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the MOU enables signatories to collaborate closely and directly notify platform members of potential IP violations, leading to a more efficient takedown of online posts selling counterfeit products or pirated content.
IPOPHL deputy director-general Nathaniel Arevalo stressed the significance of having a social media influencer like Tan join the E-Commerce MOU, making the pool of signatories more diverse and inclusive.
Tan’s participation brought the total number of signatories to the e-commerce MOU to 44 right holders.
Rosmar Skin Essentials offers a wide range of beauty and wellness products on various e-commerce platforms, including Lazada, Shopee, Shopify and TikTok Shop.
