When filmmaker and former Taguig mayor Lino Cayetano announced his intention to run for Congress, few expected hurdles to come his way. After all, not only does he bear the name of prominent politicians in Taguig City, but he also has a solid track record in public service, having impressively emerged among the top five Metro Manila mayors with the highest approval ratings from constituents during the challenging pandemic years.
Yet despite having a home in Taguig’s 1st District and roots that stretch back to his father, the late lawyer and senator Rene “Companero” Cayetano, Direk Lino now finds himself in a political dilemma — effectively a disqualification issue following the rejection by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) of his request to transfer his residency from Taguig’s 2nd District to the 1st District of Taguig-Pateros.
