MANILA, Philippines — Two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) died last Monday after inhaling harmful gases in a fire incident in Kuwait, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.
“The workers’ cause of death was attributed to the inhalation of non-breathable, toxic gases from the fire,” labor attaché Manuel Dimaano reported in a statement.
He said the Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait is handling legal procedures, including the processing of documents for the repatriation of the OFWs’ remains to the Philippines, and addressing other related concerns.
The DMW Regional Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Western Visayas visited the families of the OFWs in Capiz and gave financial assistance.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and assure them of our full support,” the DMW said.
