Two senior high school students were shot dead while heading to school in Pikit, Cotabato.
Police said the two were classmates and were riding a motorcycle for school when the gunmen on board another motorcycle shot them.
The victims were both 18 years old and residents of Barangay Kabalasan, Ligawasan under the Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (SGA-BARMM).
Residents found the victims at an irrigation canal. One of the two died on the spot while the other did not reach the hospital alive.
“Since wala tayong person-of-interest at hindi pa natin masabi kung ano ang motibo, may tinitingnan yung ating Pikit Municipal Police Station but subject for verification,” Cotabato Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Lt. James Warren Caang, said.
Investigators said the victims had no criminal records.
“Yung dalawang victims, wala pong records sa school, pati rin sa community… wala po silang mga masasamang record,” Caang added.
GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is trying to reach out to the victims’ families for a statement, as of this writing.
Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive.
“Nanawagan ng hustisya, yun nga pumunta yung ating kapulisan ng Pikit kasama po ang kanilang chief of police upang mangalap pa ng additional information baka may maiturong suspek itong pamilya ng ating mga biktima,” Caang said.
