LOPEZ, Quezon, Philippines — A landslide hit 34 houses in Purok 2, Barangay Matinik in Lopez, Quezon late Saturday.

The landslide struck at around 11 p.m. along the National Highway, which was declared impassable for heavy vehicles.

According to a barangay report, the landslide destroyed 10 houses and damaged 24 others. It also damaged the water reservoir and caused train tracks to tilt, stopping train services.

Prior to the incident, authorities had ordered an evacuation to ensure public safety after residents reported seeing cracks on the ground.

At least 51 families or 127 people are housed at the barangay hall.

Two classrooms at Matinik Elementary School were also damaged.

Gov. Angelina Tan tasked agencies to prioritize the repair of damaged roads and other infrastructure, aside from providing the affected residents with relief goods, temporary shelters and other essential support.
