(The fire started on the second floor of the 3-storey building. We had families affected. They’re all siblings. The estimated damage is more or less P150,000.)
The fatalities were all minors, said to be cousins who were trapped.
“Pagbukas ko pinto, nakalock. Pinagtatadyakan ko. Noong bumigay, sumalubong naman sakin yung apoy at saka usok. Dito na ko napunta din. Hindi ko na napanhik yung mga apo ko. Hindi na nasalba yung apo ko. Lima sila,” said Gil Aguilar, the grandfather of the victims.
(When I opened the door, it was locked. I kicked it open. When it broke, the fire and smoke greeted me. This is where I ended up. I wasn’t able to go up to my grandchildren. I wasn’t able to save them. There were five of them.)
The fire was controlled at around 11:00 p.m. on Monday, and officially declared out at 11:25 p.m.
The Bureau of Fire Protection began an investigation on the property on Tuesday morning.
“We gathered info from direct witnesses. Later, we’ll gather ashes, debris, and electrical wirings for laboratory examination,” said Ramos. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
