ABOITIZ Power Corp. (AboitizPower) through its unit Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI) has energized its 45-megawatt peak (MWp) Armenia solar facility in Tarlac.
The project, ARI President Jimmy Villaroman said in a statement on Thursday, is the firm’s contribution to the “diversification of the Philippine power mix.”
“We can be counted on to continue to help build and strengthen a cleaner energy system for the future,” he added.
“In addition to this, we appreciate the help of the NGCP (National Grid Corp. of the Philippines) in integrating Armenia to the grid. There is no energy transition without transmission, so we thank them for their support.”
AboitizPower said the Armenia plant was its fourth solar project after the 59-MWp San Carlos plant in Negros Occidental, and 94-MWp Cayanga-Bugallon and 159-MWp Laoag plants in Pangasinan.
This facility connects to the grid via an 11.58-kilometer transmission line that traverses five barangay (villages).
In another development, ARI geothermal subsidary AP Renewables Inc. also announced the Bay battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Laguna, having signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Co. Ltd.
It will be the first-ever BESS and geothermal hybrid system in the country.
AboitizPower has over 1,000 MW of projects from various indigenous energy sources, while eyeing to grow its portfolio for solar, hydro, geothermal, wind and energy storage systems.
It aims to build 3,600 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy capacity and reach 4,600 MW by 2030.
On Thursday, AboitizPower’s share price fell by 15 centavos to close at P37.00.
