MANILA, Philippines — A teary Maris Racal admitted that she did not know that actor Anthony Jennings was still in a relationship when they started to share a deeper connection outside of their love team.
Racal made the statement on Friday amid the much-talked about cheating allegations involving her, Jennings and his non-showbiz partner Jam Villanueva.
In a series of Instagram Stories late Tuesday night, Villanueva shared screenshots of the two celebrities’ seemingly intimate conversations, which happened allegedly while she and Jennings were still together.
“Today, I will be speaking from my heart, lahat ng sasabihin ko ay galing sa puso ko. Today, I will take accountability for everything. Nagkamali ako and I want to say sorry for everything I have done [Today, I will be speaking from my heart; everything I say will come from my heart. Today, I will take accountability for everything. I made mistakes, and I want to say sorry for everything I have done],” Racal began in an exclusive interview on ABS-CBN, her home studio.
The actress recalled that it all started in June of 2024, when she was “in a very dark place.”
“I was lonely and I was getting attention from Anthony, the kind of attention that I needed. When I sensed that there was this brewing attraction between Anthony and I, nadala ako sa emotions ko [I got carried away by my emotions] and I knew that was wrong.”
Racal said that at that point she “came clean right away” and told her ex, musician Rico Blanco, which resulted in their breakup. It was on July 12 when Racal publicly confirmed they ended their five-year relationship.
“The reason why I became so emotional during the interview [regarding breakup with Blanco] was because I was holding back the truth. That’s the truth.”
The 27-year-old admitted that she hadn’t been able to take time to reflect on what had happened due to her nonstop work schedule, spanning days, weeks, and even months. She mentioned that before their busy period began, she had confided in Jennings about her breakup and he had shared that he had gone through a similar experience.
Jennings has yet to comment on the controversy.
