Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island had another ash emission event that lasted for one minute long, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Sunday.
According to PHIVOLCS, Kanlaon Volcano has been observed to have continuous degassing with occasional ash emission.
It also released 3,891 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Saturday, December 7, as well as a moderate 200-meter tall plume that drifted west-southwest.
Fourteen volcanic earthquakes were also logged at the volcano, whose edifice is inflated.
Alert Level 2 is currently raised at Kanlaon Volcano due to an “increased unrest” following its explosive eruption on June 3.
Entry into the volcano’s 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone and flying any aircraft close to it are prohibited.
Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, and precursory magmatic activity may occur.
Taal Volcano
Meanwhile, five volcanic tremors that lasted three to five minutes long were recorded at Taal Volcano in Batangas.
It also emitted 1,207 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Saturday, and a moderate 500-meter tall plume.
On Tuesday, Taal Volcano had a minor phreatomagmatic eruption, generating a 2800-meter grayish plume.
Taal Volcano is currently under Alert Level 1 with a “low-level unrest.”
Entry into Taal Volcano Island which is considered a permanent danger zone, and flying any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited.
Hazards such as steam-driven or phreatic or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas may also occur. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
