COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Policemen and soldiers seized combat rifles, a pistol and a B40 rocket launcher found in the hideout in Barangay Manaulanan in Tugunan, Cotabato of a wanted person they were supposed to serve warrants of arrest early Saturday, December 28.
The suspect, Dauren Kasim Manampen, had hastily escaped when he sensed that policemen under units of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and the Cotabato Provincial Police Office in Region 12 and personnel of the Army’s 90th Infantry Battalion were approaching his location in Barangay Manaulanan.
Members of PRO-BAR’s Maguindanao del Norte provincial police force tasked to arrest Manampen found in his house in Barangay Manaulanan an M16 rifle, an M14 rifle, a .50 caliber Barrett sniper rifle, 7.62 millimeter bolt-action sniper rifle, a B40 rocket launcher, a .45 pistol and home-made explosives.
Manaulanan is an interior barangay in Tugunan, one of the eight newly-created towns under the regional government of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, but are located inside Cotabato province in Administrative Region 12.
Police Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, director of PRO-BAR, told reporters on Sunday, December 29, that policemen under him and his counterpart in Region 12, Brig. Gen. Arnold Peralta Ardiente, together carried out the operation that resulted in the confiscation of the weapons that Manampen had used in perpetrating atrocities in Barangay Manaulanan and nearby areas in Pikit town in Cotabato.
Manampen, now subject of a joint police-military manhunt, is wanted for high-profile criminal cases, including robbery and trafficking of narcotics, that are pending in different courts, according to police officials in Pikit and in nearby towns.
