MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla issued a strong call to action for local authorities and communities to prioritize safety and preparedness following the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, one of the most active volcanos in the Philippines.
In a statement issued Tuesday evening, Remulla urged all local chief executives in the affected areas to begin immediate evacuation efforts within the 4 to 6-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) surrounding the volcano.
