AFTER receiving flak over the new banknotes that featured endangered species and wildlife, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Saturday reiterated that the paper banknotes with the faces of Philippine heroes would remain in circulation.
The central bank’s statement came amid criticism from relatives of former senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and former president Corazon Aquino, who both appear on the P500 banknote, that the government was erasing the country’s heroes from the bills. The new polymer series of the same denomination replaced the Aquinos with the Visayan spotted deer.
