THE local chief executives of all four cities in the northern part of Metro Manila, collectively known as the Camanava area, have been recognized for their excellent performance in running the affairs of their respective local government units (LGUs) for obtaining the coveted Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award 2024.
Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla cited the Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela mayors for their “consistent excellent performance in multiple areas, including financial housekeeping, disaster preparedness, business competitiveness, social protection and public safety.
Caloocan Mayor Dave Malapitan said he felt “more victorious” since the city government received its eighth consecutive SGLG.
He credited the former Caloocan mayor, his father and now 1st District Rep. Oscar Malapitan, whose term as city chief executive was the recipient of the most number of SGLG awards.
“The credit would also go to the local officials and employees in the city government in ensuring that the programs of my administration are effectively and efficiently felt by my constituents,” Mayor Malapitan said.
Meanwhile, for the sixth time, Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco said the city was the recipient of DILG’s highly coveted SGLG during a ceremony held at the Manila Hotel last Monday.
“Earning the Seal of Good Local Governance six times is proof that we can achieve the highest standards of public service as long as we work together and remain united,” Tiangco told The Manila Times.
“We are deeply honored and humbled by this recognition, as well as the trust and confidence our people have placed in our leadership,” he added.
Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said that the SGLG award was a back-to-back recognition from DILG for her administration that started in 2022.
City Administrator Alexander Rosete, who accompanied the mayor during the event, said the recognition would only show how the Sandoval administration upholds the values of integrity and efficiency in delivering public services.
