MANILA, Philippines — The navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, for the first time, participated alongside the Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) in a confrontation against Philippine ships in the Scarborough Shoal (Bajo de Masinloc) on Wednesday, the National Maritime Council said on Thursday.
Undersecretary Alexander Lopez, NMC spokesman, said that the PLA Navy vessels, which traditionally stayed in the background during such encounters, actively engaged in aggressive maneuvers against Philippine ships.
