COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A policeman who shot dead a bus passenger and wounded his fellow officers at the border of Cotabato and Davao del Sur over the weekend tested positive for drugs.
Cpl. Alfred Sabas of the General Santos City police is currently detained at the Davao region police detention facility.
Police said Sabas is facing charges for murder, frustrated murder and other criminal offenses for allegedly killing Reynaldo Bigno Jr. and wounding Cpl. Kent Maurith Pamaos and Pat. Ussel Love Tapia.
Col. Gilbert Tuzon, Cotabato police director, yesterday confirmed that Sabas failed the procedural drug test administered by investigators and forensic experts of the Davao del Sur police.
Brig. Gen. Arnold Ardiente, Davao region police director, said he would recommend the dismissal of Sabas from the service.
Reports said Sabas and his partner, Phoenix Marie Javier, figured in a spat while in a bus enroute to Davao del Sur from Cotabato.
Sabas, who was reportedly drunk, drew his gun and shot Bigno, killing the victim instantly.
