(UPDATE) A PASAY Regional Trial Court has ordered the immediate release of actress and businesswoman Neri Naig from detention.
This was confirmed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
BJMP spokesman JSupt. Jayrex Bustinera said they already received the release order.
On Nov. 23, Naig was arrested over charges of estafa and alleged violation of the Securities Regulation Code.
The court said that Naig was accused of persuading individuals to invest in a skin care company.
However, the said company is not authorized to solicit investments from the public, the Securities and Exchange Commission said.
Naig’s camp had denied the allegations, saying she was a “victim.”
Another actress, Ruffa Mae Quinto, is also facing arrest.
Lawyer Mary Louise Reyes confirmed Quinto was charged with 14 counts of violations of Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code in relation to the issue of Dermacare, the same company involved with the incarceration of Naig.
