The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported another fatality due to a road traffic incident amid the holiday season, bringing the total deaths to six.
In its update, the DOH said four of the six fatalities were killed in a motorcycle accident.
“Isa na naman ang patay matapos masangkot sa motorcycle accident nang walang helmet. Halos lahat sa kabuuang bilang ng aksidente ay walang suot na safety gears tulad ng helmet at seatbelt,” the DOH
(Another person died after being involved in a motorcycle accident without a helmet. Almost all of the accidents involved those who were not wearing safety gears such as helmets and seatbelts.)
From December 22 to 6 a.m. of December 31, the DOH said a total of 496 road traffic incidents have been reported from eight pilot sites it is monitoring.
Of the total cases, the DOH said 83 involved intoxicated drivers, 427 involved drivers without safety accessories, and 356 involved motorcycles.
Due to this, the DOH discouraged motorists from driving while exhausted or drunk to avoid traffic incidents.
Motorists as well as their passengers should wear helmets and seatbelts. They should also observe the speed limit and road signs.
The DOH also advised motorists to have seven to eight hours of sleep and avoid distractions like mobile phones while on the road.
“Sakaling mangailangan ng tulong, tumawag sa 911 emergency hotline o 1555 DOH emergency hotline (If they need help, call 911 emergency hotline or 1555 DOH emergency hotline),” the DOH said.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
