Sixty-eight additional road traffic incidents were monitored by the Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday, bringing the total cases so far this holiday season to 418.
The DOH said the 418 road accidents were logged from December 22 until 6 a.m. of December 29. This number was 38% higher than the data logged during the same period last year.
Of the total incidents, 291 involved motorcycles and 70 were cases who were under the influence of alcohol.
There were 356 cases who were also found not using any safety accessories when the accident occurred.
The DOH thus reminded the public to always wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle and use a seatbelt when driving or riding a car.
Those who are exhausted or drunk alcohol should also refrain from driving to avoid accidents, it said.
Drivers should also follow speed limits and road signs, and ensure that they have 7-8 hours of sleep before driving, the department added.
Motorists who need any help along the road may call 911 emergency hotline or 1555 DOH emergency hotline. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
