Close to 80,000 family food packs and more than 15,000 non-food items have been prepositioned to residents, including those in evacuation centers, affected by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption in Negros provinces, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Tuesday.
“Mahigit 40,000 family food packs and more than 14,000 non-food items yung naka-preposition sa [Negros] Occidental. At gayun din po, close to 40,000 family food packs and more than 1,800 non-food items ang naka-preposition naman po sa Negros Oriental,” said DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao in Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

“Mayroon na po tayong mga na-release sa mga affected populations particularly yung mga pamilyang nasa evacuation centers,” she added.

The Office of Civil Defense earlier said that a total of 9,403 residents or 2,880 families in Negros Occidental alone have already evacuated following the eruption that occurred on Monday afternoon.
The DSWD, on the other hand, said that there are currently 13 evacuation centers in Negros Occidental.
Aside from the food and non-food items, the DSWD said that it will provide cash assistance to affected families.
“Aside from the food and non-food items that the DSWD is providing, mayroon din tayong mga ibang tulong – financial assistance, cash relief assistance po yan under Assistance to Individuals Under Crisis Situation,” said Dumlao.

On Monday, Kanlaon Volcano had an explosive eruption that lasted 3 minutes and 55 seconds, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
With this, Alert Level 3 (magmatic unrest) has been hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano from the previous Alert Level 2 (increasing unrest). — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
