The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), in collaboration with De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila, unveiled the preliminary findings of a groundbreaking study titled “Habits and Preferences of Filipino Viewers of Local Films in Metro Manila.” The research offers a look into the challenges facing Philippine cinema and suggests avenues for revitalizing the industry.
Conducted by DLSU’s Social Development Research Center (SDRC), the study is based on surveys and focus group discussions involving 800 respondents who recently watched movies in cinemas. The findings highlight significant trends, including a preference for foreign films, decreasing cinema attendance, and shifting consumer habits due to the rise of streaming platforms.
