To assist firefighters, three Grade 12 students developed an automated firing robot that can detect and put out fires that can squeeze through narrow streets.
In Martin Javier’s report on 24 Oras’ Game Changer, the students from Tapinac Senior High School developed PYROSAGE, which is short for portable yet robust operation with smart automatic guardian fire monitoring.
The developers —Ma. Casandra Dela Pena, Jazmine Valencia, and Paul Timpog —said they do not aim to replace but rather assist the traditional firefighting methods.
“We aim to advance from the traditional firefighting methods that are available. ‘Yung nagpapa-unique po kasi kay PYROSAGE is that it can extinguish fire with greater precision,” said Jazmine.
(What makes PYROSAGE unique is that it can extinguish the fire with greater precision.)
“Habang nagkakaroon po kami ng errors, natututo po kami doon sa part na ‘yun kung ano yung pagkakamali namin at kung paano namin ma-improve,” said Paul.
(While we make mistakes, we learn from them and we know how we can improve.)
Aside from obstacle detection, the PYROSAGE is also equipped with flame sensors that can detect fire.
PYROSAGE also has real-time monitoring of the fire through a camera, and it can also be controlled manually using bluetooth.
The developers have conducted field testing with the Bureau of Fire Protection in Olongapo City.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
