ENVIRONMENTAL organization Greenpeace installed solar panels and charging stations in Bohol’s “sinking” islands of Bilangbilangan and Batasan to strengthen the residents’ climate response capabilities and transition away from fossil fuel dependence. It contracted the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology to acquire, engineer and install the stations, and conduct a solar training workshop for volunteers and community partners.
According to a Greenpeace report, Bohol was among the areas worst hit by Super Typhoon Odette in 2021, suffering P41.6 billion in damages to infrastructure, the economy and other critical sectors, including development administration, social, environment and the private sector.
