MANILA, Philippines — A group composed of private persons filed an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday.
The group was composed of members of civil society organizations, religious leaders, sectoral representatives, and kin of victims of alleged extrajudicial killings.
A statement issued to reporters at the House of Representatives said that Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña would endorse the complaint.
The 1987 Constitution gives the House exclusive power to initiate impeachment cases and gives the Senate the power to try such cases.
Under the Constitution, a verified impeachment complaint may be filed by a lawmaker of the House. Any citizen may also file a complaint but it must be endorsed by a member of the House.
