MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested after he illegally entered two residences, including a house owned by a comedian and television host, in Quezon City on Christmas Eve, police reported yesterday.
Wendel John Lantacon, 24, is facing two counts of trespass to dwelling, robbery and attempted homicide for the incident, which occurred in Barangay Matandang Balara at around 7:45 p.m.
Police said Lantacon, a resident of Barangay Holy Spirit, first attempted to ransack a condominium unit, but he was apprehended by security guards.
He was brought to the condominium building’s security office, but he managed to escape to an adjacent village and sought refuge at the comedian’s house, probers said.
Authorities withheld the TV personality’s identity upon his request.
In an interview over ABS-CBN, the comedian said he and his family were preparing for Noche Buena when they noticed the suspect, who was in handcuffs, inside the house.
“Good thing that we were able to restrain him and sought help from the police and security guards,” he said.
While everyone in his household was calm, the comedian said they feared for their safety from the intruder.
While in police custody, Lantacon allegedly grappled with a security guard and took his 9mm pistol.
The suspect fired at the security guard but missed. The guard then subdued him.
Lantacon was brought to the Batasan police station 6 for investigation.
