President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday urged Catholics and Filipinos to emulate Mary by serving others with compassion and  humility, as we strive to build “the Bagong Pilipinas.”

In his message on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Marcos said this day holds a great meaning among Catholics as it was an opportunity to reflect on the themes of grace, purity, and devotion.

“This is a day of profound significance that honors the role of the Blessed  Virgin Mary in the life of Jesus Christ and God’s plan for humanity’s redemption,” he said.

“In a constantly changing world,  religion and faith continue to foster a sense of community and belonging that plays a central role in helping us navigate the complexities of life. It offers stability, purpose, and hope pillars that contribute to the mental, emotional, and spiritual health of every Filipino,” he added.

The President encouraged Filipinos to lead and  embrace the journey towards “holiness and remain connected through the  common aspiration to live a life filled with integrity, devotion.”

The observance of the Feast of  the Immaculate Conception traces its origins to the Papal encyclical  Ineffabilis Deus, issued by Pope Pius IX on December 8, 1854, which  formally defined the dogma of the Immaculate Conception.

It is a  holy day of obligation for Roman Catholics and a special non-working  holiday in the Philippines, designated under Republic Act No. 10966,  which was signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2017. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
