President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday called on Filipinos to embody the ideals of national hero Jose Rizal, including his dedication to truth.
Marcos led the wreath-laying ceremony in commemoration of the 128th anniversary of the martyrdom of Rizal in Luneta Park, Manila. He is hoping for a solemn observance of Rizal’s martyrdom.
”As we remember his noble works and honorable life, let us take to heart his words and ideals that awakened the consciousness of our forebears and stirred a national movement for freedom,” Marcos said in his message.
”I call on my fellow Filipinos to look back in pride and embody all the things he cherished-love of country, dedication to the truth, and commitment to the betterment of our people. Truly, it is through Dr. Rizal’s works that one can realize that true change can begin within us, especially when we stand firm on the issues that we face today,” he added.
Marcos urged the public to be bold enough to be catalysts of change and hold on to the belief that each Filipino can contribute to the Philippines ”that stands on the pillars of solidarity and progress.”
”Whether in service to our communities, in the pursuit of knowledge, or in uplifting the marginalized, let us make decisions that will echo his resolve,” the President said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
