Several human skeletal remains were discovered in Barangay Baluntay in Alabel, Sarangani Province on Christmas Day, the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said Friday.

“Acting on a tip from a confidential informant about a suspected burial site for salvage victims, law enforcement personnel secured the area and began exhumation with the assistance of forensic experts,” the CIDG said in a statement.

“Several skeletal remains were recovered during the operation,” it added.

CIDG chief Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III said a witness identified as “Dodong” claimed that one of the remains belongs to “Jomar” of  Polomolok, South Cotabato, who has been missing for two to three months and was last seen riding a motorcycle.

“The identification is subject to confirmation through further forensic analysis. The crime scene remains under investigation, and additional updates will be provided as the case progresses,” the CIDG said.

Torre said the CIDG will continue to investigate the incident as he expressed commitment to the safety and security of the communities.
