THE National Food Authority (NFA) said that it is ready to release rice in case of emergency during the holidays.

“We have instructed our employees in the field to immediately activate our Operation Centers (OpCen) in the areas affected by floods, typhoons, and other emergencies and to open their hotlines to fast-track coordination with our relief institutions. It is the holiday season but our office is always open to respond to the needs of our countrymen. It is part of our service to be ready in times of need,” NFA Administrator Larry Lacson said.

He issued the statement as Kanlaon Volcano continued to spew ash and some areas were drenched by continuous rain.

Under the Price Range Scheme, the NFA intensified its palay buying to meet the demands of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, local government units, and legislators on rice relief for calamity-affected families and individuals.

This year, the NFA was able to fulfill 95 percent of its buffer stock target with current stock of 5.66 million bags of rice.
