NATIONAL Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), the country’s sole government-owned maritime training and research center, has taken significant steps toward strengthening its partnership with the Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council Inc. (PJMCC).

In a meeting held at the JSU-Amosup Mariners’ Home in Malate, Manila, the PJMCC board members highly commended NMP’s key initiatives under the P1.3 billion NMP Modernization Plan, including infrastructure upgrades, acquisition of advanced simulation equipment, and expanded training programs aimed at addressing the evolving needs of the maritime sector.

PJMCC also lauded NMP’s proactive efforts to incorporate mental health initiatives into its programs, particularly the expansion of the Mental Health Awareness Course aimed at addressing the rising mental health challenges among seafarers.

The council proposed enhancing the program by making it available online to significantly improve accessibility for seafarers, manning companies, and institutions nationwide. Additionally, they advocated for its integration into Pre-Departure Orientation Seminars (PDOS) to broaden its reach and ensure greater impact.

PJMCC also offered support for initiatives focused on upskilling and reintegration programs for seafarers, such as specialized training for welders, oilers, and fitters.
