MANILA, Philippines — Despite scattered and isolated rain showers in many parts, the country will remain storm-free at least until this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Wednesday.
Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said three weather systems – shear line, easterlies and northeast monsoon or “amihan” – are affecting most parts of the archipelago.
He said the convergence of the hot and cold air or shear line is bringing scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Metro Manila, its adjoining provinces and some Bicol areas.
The easterlies – winds coming from the east and passing through the Pacific Ocean that carry humid and warm weather – are affecting Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.
The state-run weather agency said Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao would be experiencing cloudy skies with rains within 24 hours brought about by
amihan.
The same weather system is also affecting Ilocos Region, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains will prevail, the weather agency said.
