Pre-emptive evacuations have been conducted in at least three barangays of Panabo City in Davao del Norte amid the heavy rains caused by the trough of a low pressure area that was formerly Tropical Depression Querubin.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Saturday that its personnel worked with counterparts from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Panabo to evacuate families in Purok Nido in Barangay New Pandan, Purok Cabbage and Purok Radish in Barangay Gredu, and Purok Galagala in Barangay San Vicente.
A total of 57 individuals were assisted as of Saturday late morning. They are currently taking shelter at the San Vicente Gym evacuation center.
“The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) said the mission reflected the seamless coordination between the Coast Guard, local government units, and other agencies, ensuring the safety of residents amid adverse weather,” the said. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
