MANILA, Philippines — Business group Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) has named Maya Bank chair and PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications Inc. director Alfredo “Al” Panlilio as its president for 2025.

In a statement yesterday, the group said Panlilio was elected as MAP’s 77th president.

The business group reconvened for another election after president-elect Emmanuel “Noel” Bonoan decided to withdraw from the role due to personal reasons.

Panlilio is stepping into the role with extensive experience, having previously served as president and CEO of PLDT and Smart.

Prior to that, he was senior vice president and head of customer retail services and corporate communications at Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).

Under the Meralco Group, he served as chair of Radius Telecoms, e-Meralco Ventures, Paragon Vertical Corp., Powersource First Bulacan Solar and Pure Meridian Hydropower Corp. and held other posts in other units.

An advocate of the value of sports in maintaining a strong republic and international relations, Panlilio is a member of the FIBA Central Board and also serves as second vice president of the FIBA Asia Board.

In addition, Panlilio is president of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the MVP Sports Foundation.

He holds the position of first vice president of the Philippine Olympic Committee and chair of the National Golf Association of the Philippines.

He also headed the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Philippine local organizing committee.

Panlilio holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Computer Information Systems from San Francisco State University and an MBA from J. L. Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University and the Hongkong University of Science and Technology.

Apart from Panlilio, also part of the MAP 2025 Board of Governors are Metro Pacific Investment Corp.’s Michael Toledo as vice president, SGV & Co.’s Wilson Tan as treasurer, AC Health’s Paolo Borromeo as assistant treasurer and GT Capital Holdings Inc.’s Gil Genio as secretary.

Other members of the MAP 2025 Board are Ayala Corp. ‘s Rene Almendras, KPMG R. G. Manabat & Co. ‘s Bonoan, Rex Drilon of Center for Excellence in Governance and Marianne Hontiveros of CEO Advisors.
