A FRAMEWORK for regular and structured engagements on energy projects with the United States has been finalized, the Department of Energy (DOE) said, following the US-Philippines Energy Policy Dialogue (EPD) held in Manila.
The DOE said the framework is designed to facilitate meaningful collaboration on energy projects and ensure the effective development and implementation of related joint programs.
The plan includes the advancement of the deployment of renewable energy technologies to reduce carbon emissions, the modernization and expansion of energy transmission infrastructure to meet growing demand, and exploring nuclear energy as a potential option for electricity generation.
The EPD also underscores the need for access to financing, innovative technologies, and resilient infrastructure to support a just energy transition since these are essential to ensure the shift to cleaner energy is equitable, affordable, and inclusive, promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth without imposing undue burdens on consumers.
The inaugural EPD was held in the US in August 2023, with the Philippine delegation led by Energy Supervising Undersecretary for Policy and Planning Felix William B. Fuentebella.
It was based on priorities reaffirmed during the visit of then-US Vice President Kamala Harris to the Philippines in November 2022, in which both countries recognized the vital role of sustainable energy partnerships in driving economic growth and addressing global climate challenges.
The DOE said the Philippines and the US aim to address the dual challenges of fostering sustainable development and mitigating climate change while paving the way for a cleaner, more resilient, and equitable energy future.
