PHILHEALTH has made significant reforms under the guidance of Sen. Bong Go, the chairman of the Senate Health Committee.

One of the most notable changes is a substantial increase in case rates, which have risen by up to 50 percent across the board as of Nov. 30.

The adjustment aims to alleviate the financial burden on patients and enhance their access to essential medical services.

Go emphasized the importance of ensuring that PhilHealth fulfills its mandate to provide equitable health care coverage for everyone.

“In today’s difficult times, we must ensure that health services are within reach for every Filipino. This is why we continue to focus on PhilHealth to ensure that it meets the needs of our countrymen,” he said.

The reforms were presented during a Dec. 18 hearing of the Senate Committee on Health, where PhilHealth Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Eli Dino Santos reported on the agency’s progress, including the adjusted case rates.

Go underscored the need to sustain PhilHealth’s programs, emphasizing the importance of financial stability in supporting expanded benefits and efficient claims processing.

“We should not only excel in providing numerous benefits, but we must also ensure that PhilHealth can sustain these offerings in the long term. Prioritizing the health of Filipinos should be our main focus,” he said.

The reforms being implemented by PhilHealth, championed by Go, mark a significant step in ensuring that all Filipinos have access to affordable, high-quality health care.

So far, Go has authored 16 laws, principally sponsored 80 laws, including 78 measures for establishing or upgrading public hospitals, and co-authored or co-sponsored 185 other laws.
