The Philippines ended its dream run in the 2024 ASEAN Championship (AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup) after falling short against Thailand, 3-1, (4-3 on aggregate) on Monday in the second leg of the semifinals in Bangkok.
It took more than 100 minutes for the match in front of 31,876 fans to be decided, with a goal from Suphanat Mueanta at the 116th minute in extra time sealing the victory for the Thais.
Bjorn Kristensen, however, gave another chance for the Philippine Men’s National Football Team as his goal at the 84th minute cut the Thais’ lead, 2-1, and equalized the aggregate, 3-3, which eventually sent the match to extra time.

Thailand made its first goal at the 38th minute from Peeradol Chamratsamee, although some of the replies from a clip of the video said the ball was supposedly out.

The Thais led 1-0 at halftime, before they doubled their lead with a goal from Patrik Gustavsson at the 54th minute.
“It could have, for me, went both ways (the game). We had a chance early on in the stoppage time of the 90 minutes, they had chances, we had chances, I think it was a fair game and anyone could have won at this point,” goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad said in the post-match broadcast interview.
“It would not be the Philippines if we did not have hills to climb. This is another hill we have to climb, something we will do as a team, and I think the fans at home can be proud of us and look forward to the coming years [and] what this team could do,” he added.
PMNFT made history in the said tournament by reaching the semis for the first time since 2018 and beating Thailand for the first time in 52 years in the first leg of the semifinals, 2-1.
Thailand will face Vietnam in the finals.
